Daisy Badges

Daisy badges are the very first honors scouts can earn on their Girl Scout journey. These colorful shapes represent tangible skills they’ve mastered, such as basic cybersecurity, hiking, and even simple financial literacy. They aren’t just badges; they’re symbols of a girl’s first steps into leadership and character building.

Keeping in mind the short attention span of young girls. Daisy badges are designed to be achievable and fun, while building confidence through hands-on activities.

There are two types of Daisy Badges: Petals and Skill Badges.

Daisy Petals

Petals are the heart of the Daisy experience and focus on character building. There are 10 petals in total, plus a central Promise Center. Each one represents a different part of the Girl Scout Law.

The Daisy level was formerly introduced in 1984, but the iconic petals weren’t introduced until 2000. There were no requirements to earn them until 2011, when GSUSA introduced the Flower Friends program.

The Flower Friends were a set of character-based stories and role models used to help girls learn and practice the Girl Scout Law. Each “friend” represented a different petal of the Daisy Law, with short biographies and lessons tied to that petal

The petal requirements were revamped in 2022, and the Flower Friends were retired. You can find the current requirements here.

Skill-Building Badges

While petals focus on who we are, badges for Daisy Girl Scouts focus on what we can do. These flower-shaped awards cover specific skills that help girls discover new hobbies.

GSUSA launched the Girl Scout Daisy Badge Program in 2021. It was designed to help girls explore their interests, build skills, and earn recognition for their adventures.

Retired Daisy Badges

The following badges, called Leaves, used to go below the Petals on a girl’s vest to form a flower. Leaves were retired in favor of more traditional badges. The Financial Literacy Leaves(Money Counts and Making Choices) were replaced in 2022 by the Money Explorer and My Money Choices badges. The Cookie Business Leaves (Count It Up and Talk it Up) were replaced in 2021 by the My First Cookie Business and the Cookie Goal Setter badges.
